Cattle Raised For Perfection

Our experts know that the perfect steak does not begin at prep time, and does not happen by accident. Instead, it is the result of a host of interlocking factors that, when carefully managed, can result in perfection on your plate – sustainably and consistently.

The process begins with Bill Freding whose 40+ years of cattle experience allows him to hand-pick the very finest of British Columbia’s Angus cattle directly from BC’s Interior ranchers.

These carefully selected cattle – only the best - are then brought to Bill and Darlene’s 400 acre family farm, Southern Plus, located in the warm, fertile Okanagan benchlands. Here the cattle are carefully nurtured to limit stress and fed an optimum diet containing hay and corn silage that has been grown naturally on their pristine, local fields and fertilized with compost from Southern Plus.

For the grain portion of the animals diet, Bill uses wheat and barley - both grown in Creston BC, making Okanagan's Finest Angus Beef a truly "local" product with a remarkably low carbon foot print.. A smaller percentage of the finishing ration is "GSP" or "grain screening pellets" which are manufactured on the B.C. Coast from human consumption grade grains from the Canadian Prairie.

Please note: a few local vineyards are fertilizing naturally with compost from Southern Plus, making Okanagan’s Finest Angus Beef and the best accompanying local wines products of full-circle nutrient cycling. Not only is this common sense, it saves significantly on emissions and water use.  The beef animals are then allowed to finish naturally, without the use of antibiotics or growth hormones.  One final trip takes the cattle to a local abattoir where the meat is CFIA inspected, meticulously processed and dry aged for a minimum of 14 days .
